6 Steps To A Heathier Heart
I was saddened about the news I heard early in the morning today. My roommate told me that Dante’s mom died last night due to a heart attack. Kailan ko lang nabalitaan na may sakit na sa puso ang nanay niya. They also told me that lately, they send his mom to an acupuncturist. They noticed some good improvement on her condition. But sadly, this sickness is a traitor. You’ll never know when it will strike you. While risk factor such as age and heredity can’t be changed, others can. Here are the six steps to a healthier heart:
Keep blood pressure in check. Monitor your blood pressure against the optimal level of 120/80 and, if necessary, see a doctor about reducing it through diet, exercise and medication.
Monitor cholesterol levels. The body needs the waxy, fat-like substance known as cholesterol to function normally, but excessive cholesterol leaves deposits in the arteries. An optimal cholesterol level is below 200. Know your level and which foods can elevate it, such as liver and eggs. Depending on other risk factors such as obesity, cholesterol should be checked as early as in your 20s and 30s.
Don’t smoke. Smokers are at greater risk for heart disease whether they use filtered or unfiltered cigarettes. Tobacco use can constrict blood vessels, elevating blood pressure and contributing to heart disease.
Weight control. Excess weight strains the body, making physical activity harder and increasing blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Obese and overweight people are not only at increased risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, but also for arthritis-related disabilities and some cancers.
Exercise. Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day. Regular exercise reduces obesity, lowers cholesterol, lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk for type 2 diabetes. You’re getting the blood moving and flowing, which is providing better oxygen in your system, which is obviously good for you and your heart.
Prevent or manage diabetes. Diabetes, which occurs when the body does not process blood sugar properly, can impair or destroy blood vessels. Obesity can cause type 2 diabetes for some adults, but children are increasingly at risk due to today’s higher rates of childhood obesity. Those with diabetes are at the same risk for heart attack as those who already have suffered a heart attack. Early detection is key, but prevention is even better through exercise and diet.
One-third of us is going to be afflicted by blood vessel disease at some point in our lives, and it’s never too late to prevent it, the best way to do that is to not go looking for trouble. Don’t smoke. Maintain an ideal body weight. Thirty minutes of aerobic exercise everyday. It’s just that easy

The Kings Never Say Die!!!
We want Game 7!
The series is tied between Barangay Ginebra Kings and Air 21 Express. The behemoth import Chris Alexander (also awarded as the Best Import), stepped up on Game 6 to tie the series 3-3 with a monstrous performance that leads to Game 7 of the 2008 Fiesta Conference Finals.
Matapos makuha ni Helterbrand ang Best Player of the Conference award nung Game 2, he was limited to only 4 points due to hamstring injury. Mula noon, hindi na nakabalik pa sa laro ang pambatong backcourt offense ng Ginebra. Mark Caguioa had to step up from the bench and earn the points for the team but an injury slows him down on Game 5 that limits him to below average points. Ronald Tubid was forced to play on Game 5 who is coming from an injury during the semi-finals game between the Red Bull Barakos. Although not 100%, he brought spark on the teams morale to have a tight battle with Air21 on Game 5 but lost the game because of critical errors on the final minutes.
Nakabawi rin sila sa makapigil hiningang Game 6 dahil sa kabayanihan ni Alexander. Caguioa (forced to play kahit injured) and rest of the Kings give their best defensive and offensive stops in the final minutes to have the series tied and sends to Game 7 of PBA's Fiesta Conference Finals.
Will the injured Jayjay Helterbrand & Mark Caguioa be forced to play on the final game? We'll see...
If the Fast & the Furious backcourt tandem is 100%, this series will never reach to Game 7.
